After a 12-day Christmas holiday break, Kane students were scheduled to resume classes today.

Blood-cell donor helps young man with cancer

Kevin Kelly, who is married to the former Maria Ely of Kane, donates blood stem cells for transplantation into a 26-year-old male with cancer. Kelly, who resides in Bradford, underwent the PBSC procedure at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

In 1994, Kevin Kelly of Bradford made a special trip to Kane to register with the Hla Bone Marrow Registry at a signup at Kane Middle School.

Now, 14 years later, Kelly finally has been called upon to donate blood cells to help a young man with cancer.

Full Circle: A Memorial finds a permanent home

The 2008 Kane Wolves football team is shown with the Cappello family holding the memorial plaque honoring United States Marine Corps Corporal Daniel P Cappello.

There are numerous trophies and plaques adorning the hallways of the Kane Area High School. Most of them are for academic or athletic excellence. There is now a military memorial plaque for students, staff, and visitors to see, one that has been around for forty years, but now has a permanent home.
